So I was humming this song today for no particular reason. It's definitely been far too long since I've seen 'Snow White',or any other classic Disney movie for that matter. Anywho, I was thinking about Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty... all of these Disney "Princesses" and how they all lived "happily ever after". And who, among women, did not wish to be a princess while growing up? Who didn't pretend to be one of these idyllic women of cartoon fiction and prance around in her dresses and fake tiaras and imagine her future Prince Charming? Bringing the thought closer to the heart and home, who STILL longs for someone to sweep her off her feet and carry her away to a perfect castle in a perfect land?
Perhaps some have found their Princes... or, at least, think they might have found him. Perhaps some still long to be seen as beautiful, cherished, deserving of having dragons slain, wicked witches defeated, or, at the very least, the toilet seat put down for.
So, I thought of Snow White and her song where she dreams of her prince. Someday he will come and love her and rescue her from loneliness and misunderstanding. Or of Cinderella as she hopes for someone to connect with, to take her away from her dungeon of neglect and invisibility. Fairy tale women pay their dues- life is not all roses and daffodils for them. However, someone finds them, rescues them, loves them.
(Realizing the magnitude of the salvation given by Christ Jesus and how easily I could take off on these blessed truths and promises, for the sake of the post I'm sticking with mere mortals here.)
Someday your prince will come. Granted he will not be perfect, but who says that these Prince Charmings were? It is simply the matter of waiting and not settling for second best. Be patient- God's timing is so much more beautiful than our rushing things. And, as a Princess, don't settle for anything less than a Prince.
In the meantime, in the day-to-day life, work on making yourself beautiful; and not just physically beautiful (for beauty is fleeting). A pure heart, a loving life, and a giving spirit were so much more important to the Disney fairy tale princesses. Their Princes were drawn to their hearts and their kindness. A true prince looks at the heart of his princess. The love and beauty from her heart shine through her eyes and her countenance. And that beauty comes from knowing she is ultimately and unconditionally loved by her King and from living in a manner that reflects and cherishes that love.
